Who is Technical Consultant Mark Child?
Former adviser to Downey High School’s Volsung yearbook in California, Mark’s staffs were honored with numerous national and state awards. The Volsung has received five Gold Crowns and three Silver Crowns from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and three Pacemakers from the National Scholastic Press Association. The 2001 centennial anniversary edition was honored with both a Gold Crown and Pacemaker and honored with Best of Show at the Southern California Journalism Education Association.
JEA honored Mark as a Special Merit Adviser in 2002 and as a Distinguished Adviser in 2003. He has taught English with the Downey Unified School District for 15 years, 11 of those at Downey High School, where he also taught photojournalism. Mark is a member of Nikon Professional Services and is an expert in digital photography and classroom pre-press technology. He has trained and inspired numerous students who have launched careers in photography and graphic design.
