Who is Yerd Andrew Visconti?
While he has yet to take his first photography course, Yerd Andrew Visconti knows what it takes to create amazing photos. He says he’s lucky that he can imagine the ultimate image in his mind, and he is willing to experiment in order to achieve the results he’s seeking.
As a seventh grader, Andrew found a camera in the attic and began shooting. In the five years since, he has shot thousands of images, had hundreds published and won a host of awards for his work. Along the way, he became the photo editor of the Invictus yearbook at Ward-Melville High School in Setauket, NY, where he found plenty of opportunities to to experiment. “Yearbook was a great experience,” he says. “And I discovered my passion.”
Many of Andrew’s most-noted works are environmental portraits; he had an image appear in Ideas that Fly, Volume 15 and was recognized in several photojournalism competitions, including a Superior Medal in Yearbook Photography in JEA’s Washington D.C. Write-offs and both second and third places in NSPA’s 2009 Picture of the Year competition. “Trait is such an important part of the word ‘portrait,’” says Andrew. “Each image needs to show the world the what’s important to the subject.”
After years of yearbooking, Andrew has decided to pursue photography as a career. He is now studying Advertising Photography at Rochester Institute of Technology.
