How can I distort text in Adobe® FreeHand®?

Text and graphics can be distorted and warped using the Envelope tool.

Create a new document

• Select New from the File menu.
• Or open a file that has text or a graphic already created in it.
  

Save the file

• Select Save as... from the File menu.
• Type a name in the File name: field.
• Choose FreeHand document from the Format: (Macintosh®)  or Save as type: (Windows®) pop-up menu (.fhx).
• Save it in your graphics folder.
• Click Save.

Create the text

• Select the Text tool from Toolbox.
• Click on your page and type the text.
• To change the font or type size:
  • highlight the text with the text tool
  • in the Inspector palette, click on the A tab
  • select another font or type size from the pop-up menus.
• Select the text with the Text tool or Pointer tool.
• Select Convert to Paths from the Text menu.
• Make sure the text paths or outlines are still selected, if not, click on the text with the pointer tool.

The Envelope distortions are different in the various versions of FreeHand. Follow the directions for your version of FreeHand.

Envelope toolbar- FreeHand 9 and above

• In the Window menu, choose Toolbars, then Envelope.
• Click on the text or graphic with the Pointer tool.
• Choose an effect from the Envelope pop-up menu.
• In the Modify menu, choose Envelope, then Create or click the Create button (to the left of the pop-up menu).
  • To undo the effect and choose another effect, select Undo Create Envelope from the Edit menu.
• The points of the paths can be dragged to change the preset shape.
• To remove the effect, in the Modify menu, choose Envelope, then Remove.
• Save the file.
