How do I create text on a path in Adobe® InDesign®?
In Adobe® InDesign®, text can follow a curve, path or outline.

Text on a Path
- Create the path with a shape, frame, pen or pencil tool.
- Leave the path stroke or go to Window>Stroke palette to change the stroke to 0pt.
Select the path with the Selection
tool.
- Use the Type on Path
tool (Shift + T).
- Place the cursor over the path. A bar and + sign will appear, then Click and start typing.
- The font and point size can be changed in the Character Palette.
If the text is too long for the path, a red box with a + in it will appear at the end of the path.
- Using the Selection tool, expand the frame, then place your cursor on the bar at the end of the text (it changes to an arrow with a +|) and drag the bar further down the path.
Path Effects
After creating your text on a path, create a different look with a path effect.
- Highlight the text with the Type on Path tool.
- Double click on the Type on Path tool.
- Choose an Effect from the pop-up menu.
- Check Preview to see the change take place.
- Customize your effect with options from the Align, To Path and Spacing fields. Be aware that not every effect works with every path or shape.
