How can I make my text fade?
Creating gradient type in Adobe® Photoshop®
Create a new file
Make sure the file dimensions are the same size as the space the graphic needs to fill on the PageMaker page and the resolution is high enough (minimum 300 dpi) so the type will not have jagged edges.
Create text
Select the Type tool and click on the screen. In the Type Options palette, choose a font from the pop-up menu and select a point size. Type the text, then click on the check mark at the right end of the palette to Commit the changes to the text layer.
Rasterize text
Next, go to the Layer menu, select Rasterize, then Type. This step is necessary so a gradient can be used on the text.
Add Layer Mask
Make sure the layer with the type is active. Click on the Add Layer Mask icon at the bottom left side of the Layers palette.
Create gradient
Choose the Linear Gradient tool from the Toolbox. In the Options palette, choose:
- Normal from the Mode: pop-up menu
- 100% from the Opacity: pop-up menu.
![]()
Drag the cursor in the image window from top to bottom, or left to right. The type layer will fill with a gradient.
Flatten the image
Select Flatten image from the Layers pop-up menu. Click OK in the dialog box.
Mode change
Change the Mode to Grayscale for black and white images, or to CMYK for four color.
Save
Save as a TIFF file.
