Out of Line

2010 Nexus

A stunning full-bleed photo of a freshman and the charred remains of her family home allow this spread to serve both as a profile on the student whose house could no longer be considered a home and the closing spread. The staff chose a pair of versatile fonts that were used through the book and added type effects that exemplified the theme “Out of Line” on all headlines. Other concept-driven design decisions included flush-left body copy throughout, the folios running up the right side of each spread and the student quotes that were consciously positioned differently on every page/spread of the book.
