How do I import text into Adobe® PageMaker®?

View As PDF

Text that was typed in a word processor can be imported into Adobe® PageMaker®. It is a good idea to have the typist name the file with the page number, so it is easy to find. Then copy the text onto the computer or place the disk the text is on in the computer.

Place the text

  • Select the Pointer tool.
  • Select Place... from the File menu, or type Command+D on the Macintosh or Ctrl+D in Windows.
  • Scroll to the directory/folder the text file is in.
  • In the Place document dialog box:
    • Check Retain format if words are in bold or italic, or the correct font was used.
    • The text may still need to be reformatted once it is placed in the PageMaker file.

  • The cursor turns into a loaded text icon. Click and drag the icon on the page where the text is to be placed. If the mouse button is just clicked, the entire story will be placed, but sometimes the text needs to be in more than one column or constrained to a certain area on the page.
